In 1955, the Culpeper Jaycettes called a public meeting to consider building a hospital in Culpeper County, then the ‘center’ of the region, which included Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, and Southern Fauquier counties. Through community leadership and support (or “hands and hearts” as described by Admiral Strauss, one of the founders), Culpeper Regional Hospital opened its doors on March 24, 1960.
Culpeper Regional Hospital Foundation continues the legacy begun in 1955. Our mission is to provide a broad base of community interest and financial support to ensure the continued viability and quality patient care at Culpeper Regional Hospital. Gifts to Culpeper Regional Hospital Foundation support ongoing programs, including nursing education and advancement, investing in specialized technology and expanding services into new areas of need. Powell Wellness Center, the Dr. Christopher Zielinski Healing Garden, the recently renovated Chapel, and programs to serve underprivileged patients are some of the many important areas that have benefitted from the generosity of our donors.
Our Hands
Ensuring the safe delivery of babies is the goal of our Family Birth Center. Through the generosity of our donors, Neopuff Infant Resuscitators are available in all of the labor and delivery rooms. The Neopuffs are available to medical staff in the event of an emergency when the newborn baby must be resuscitated. Neopuffs maximizes the nurses’ ability to obtain and maintain the baby’s airway.
Our Hearts
As a member of the Virginia Power board of directors, Anna Ruth Inskeep was involved in the Director’s Charitable Contribution Program. Through the Program, Mrs. Inskeep chose Culpeper Regional Hospital to receive $125,000. Jane Barrell, Mrs. Inskeep's daughter, shared that "my mother felt very strongly about our local hospital. I know she would have been thrilled to see all the good work that has come from it".![]()

Medical Care for All Fund - Helping the Community One Patient at a Time

Dyan Brinkley, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was diagnosed in December of 2009 with stage 4 breast cancer. You may recognize Dyan by her participation in community events wearing uplifting outfits and colorful wigs.
In 2003, Dyan was first diagnosed with breast cancer and was treated immediately by receiving a lumpectomy and chemo therapy. This treatment plan seemed to have worked leaving Dyan with no problems until she started noticing other symptoms in the summer of 2009. She started feeling less energetic, short of breath, and just not well at all.
Putting off a visit to her doctor, Dyan found herself in CRH’s Emergency Department in December of 2009. Unfortunately, after various testing, they found that her cancer had come back and had spread throughout her body. Dyan visited Dr. Boyer resulting in the decision that more testing was needed to better understand her condition and give her the proper treatment. However, with no insurance, there was no possible way for Dyan to afford the additional testing.
Dyan was told about the Medical Care for All Fund, and how through donors’ gifts, the Fund has helped several people in need, similar to her situation. As a last resort, she decided to pursue this opportunity. After contacting the Foundation, her needs for additional tests were approved and she was able to receive the help she needed to better evaluate her prognosis. Through the Foundation, Dyan was able to receive four CT scans in April of 2011, and found that her treatment plan was indeed working, and the cancer was under control.
In November of 2011, Dyan’s physician, Dr. James Boyer suggested performing additional testing to capture the progress of her current treatment. "The Foundation had already helped me once. I thought there was no way they would or could help me again because there are so many others that also need help.” Dyan had succumbed to the fact that she would not be able to receive the additional CT scans.
Sensing her reluctance to approach the Foundation for assistance, Dr. Boyer contacted the Foundation and asked if financial assistance was available. Funding was available and three additional CT scans were approved. Even though her current treatment plan had been working for the past two years, the test results showed that the cancer had spread and was no longer being controlled by this treatment.
The additional testing allowed Dr. Boyer to manage her situation accordingly, changing her treatment. If the Foundation had not provided the funds for the CT scans in November, Dyan would not have gotten the testing done and she would not have known today that the current treatment plan was no longer working. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the Foundation.”
Dyan enjoys her time at Culpeper Regional Hospital and tells everyone she knows to come here. “The nurses have been fantastic, everyone is so nice, and I haven’t always gotten that elsewhere.”
(The Medical Care for All Fund assists patients with medical needs they cannot afford. These needs may include purchasing essential medical equipment or medicine that will help the patient recover from illness or injury.)
